Abstract
In Korea, ¡°Government Measures Against Imported Infectious Diseases at the Olympics and Paralympics Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2016¡± was implemented from May to October.
A total of 1,234 members (969 members for the Summer Olympics, and 265 members for the Paralympics) left Korea for the Olympics and Paralympics Games. The vaccination rate was 92.3% (criteria: Yellow fever) and the rate of education about preventing infectious diseases was 89%. We developed a management system for infectious disease control, both in Rio and Korea, and sent epidemic investigation service officers and medical doctors of infectious disease to Rio during the Olympics and Paralympics Games; we did not find any outbreak of cases.
After the Olympics and Paralympics Games, we sent SMS messages three times for awareness of infectious diseases during the zika virus¡¯s incubation period, and we carried out zika virus infection examinations for checking zika virus infection to participants of the Olympics and Paralympics Games. The result showed that all examined cases tested negative (963 cases).
